Since the beginning of last year’s pandemic, many people in India have suffered huge losses. Whether it’s about mental and physical health or unemployment, COVID-19 has caused a nationwide disturbance.
When the pandemic subsided to an extent, many companies were trying to bring back the workforce. For this, a work from office plan was being implemented. It was a problem for both companies and employees to work from home. That is why the organizations were moving to the old ways.
However, when the second wave of COVID-19 hit the nation, all the plans seemed to fail. Due to this sudden onset, India Inc. had to stop the plans of the back-to-office drive. Several companies have already created a setup for Work from Home Jobs.
Furthermore, these organizations have reduced the number of employees which now goes to 10% per department. This is an extremely critical situation when compared with the pre-pandemic era.
The companies that are still allowing their employees to work from the office have given certain rules that everyone has to follow. First, the employee has to bring a personal vehicle for the office.
There will be no availability of office transportation. Also, the employee has to ask the higher management for approval of work and travel.
The situation in different companies
Large corporations like Samsung, ITC, Mahindra, Dabur, LG, Vivo, and Panasonic have released new guidelines for their workers. Even certain banks like the Axis bank are trying their best to keep the employees safe from the second wave of COVID-19. But still, many industries are running their setups with some extra safety measures in various places.
Out of all these companies, Parle, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Axis Bank and Ceat have mostly started work from home jobs. Now, all their employees are not allowed to visit the offices.
Dr. Santrupt Misra, the global director of Aditya Birla Group explained this system. He stated that in the pre-pandemic era, around 50 to 60 percent of employees were coming to offices.
But in the present scenario, the percentage has gone down to 35-40. He also added that many local leaders are trying to manage this condition. These leaders are taking appropriate decisions for people.
Head of Corporate Human Resources in ITC Ltd., Amitrav Mukherji told that employees are advised to work from home only. This is done to reduce exposure and preventing people from using public transports, meeting visitors, and outstation travel.
Axis Bank HR head Rajkamal Vempati also said that the branches are working in the usual manner. However, the employees are asked to follow the September protocol of the work from home system.
Companies like Samsung have cut the number of employees from 50% to 30%. LG is only allowing only 10% employees for each department instead of 30%. Furthermore, Panasonic has decreased this percentage from 70 to 50.
In addition to that, Milind Apte who is the chief of HR in the popular tire maker company Ceat has allowed a 100% work from home plan for employees.
